It's time for new and continuing full-time undergraduate students from England to apply for student finance!

Students don’t need a confirmed place at university or college to apply for student finance. There’s no need to wait for UCAS offers, encourage them to apply now! If they apply late, their money might be late too.

Students should apply using their preferred choice and they can change your uni, college or course details when they get their A-level results.

If they decide not to go to uni or college this year, they can cancel their application online, so they shouldn’t wait to apply!

EU Tuition Fee only applications are expected to open from April 2023.

Part-time undergraduate applications are expected to open from June 2023.

What’s available
Before students apply, they can check:

How to apply
Let your students know that it’s quick and easy to apply online.

New students should create an account at www.gov.uk/studentfinance and need:

  • passport details
  • bank details
  • National Insurance number

Continuing students should re-apply by logging into their online account.

When to apply
To make sure students have their funding in place for the start of their course, the deadline to apply for:

  • new students is before Friday 19 May 2023
  • continuing students is before Friday 23 June 2023

Remind students they can still apply after the deadline but might only receive the minimum amount of funding until we can fully assess their application.

Visit studentfinance.campaign.gov.uk for all our latest resources and help to get student finance right first time.

What happens next
It can take 6 to 8 weeks to process their application, so encourage students to apply early to make sure they get their student finance in time for starting their course.

Students who’re applying for extra support such as the Childcare Grant or Parents’ Learning Allowance might need to wait longer while we assess their full entitlement. They should apply and provide their supporting documents straight away to avoid delays.

Students can use their online account to track the progress of their application.

Extra help
We have issued cost of living – student finance support guidance, share this with students to make sure they’re getting the maximum funding they’re entitled to and direct them to any extra support they may need during their studies.

Postgraduate Masters’ and Doctoral
Our 2023 to 2024 Postgraduate applications are expected to open from May 2023.
