Prior to commencing her employment with the SLC, Katy worked for the University of Wales, Newport as a Student Finance Adviser to meet the increasing demand for financial advice and guidance. Here she developed the University's capabilities to increase collaboration with local schools and colleges and pioneered funding schemes that contributed to the overall student experience and employability.

Katy has also worked for the Department for Work and Pensions where she gained invaluable experience in assessing and delivering a variety of services and welfare benefits.
