Full-time Maintenance Loan

How it's paid

Maintenance Loans are paid directly to the student three times a year, normally around the start of each term.

The student must have a UK bank or building society account in their own name and they'll need to register at their university or college before we can make their first payment.

Payment status

When students are logged into their online account, the ‘Your finance’ page will show a status next to their payments.

Checking details - We need to check their National Insurance number before we can pay them. They should go to ‘Your actions to complete’ to enter it.

Scheduled - We’ve scheduled the students’ payments. Before we can pay them, the university or college will need to confirm to us that they’ve registered on their course.

Awaiting confirmation - We’ll pay the student once their university or college has confirmed they’ve registered for their course.

Payment in progress – The students’ payment is on its way. It can take up to three working days for it to appear in their bank account.

Ready to be paid - We don't need anything else from the student. Their payment will be made on the date shown on their account.

Paid - The payment has been successfully made to the students bank account.

Blocked - We cannot pay them. They should already know about this. If they don’t, they should contact us.

Cancelled - We’ve cancelled their payment. They should already know about this. If they don’t, they should contact us.

Failed - Their payment has been returned to us. They should go to ‘Your personal details’ to check their bank details are correct.
